Kids for World Health was founded in the year 2001! Our class was really into a study of Africa, when one of us brought in a CBS film from "60 Minutes" on Sleeping Sickness and the lack of medicines that were available to families in Africa.
We reacted strongly to this film, and although we could hear both sides of the argument, we felt that our pharmaceutical companies and governments in the western world needed to react compassionately to families from developing countries in order that they too, could have a chance for life. Our group of 18 went to work to discuss what we could do.
We wrote many letters to pharmaceutical companies, contacted the UN and the World Health Organization, and studied the research and materials from Doctors Without Borders. We met with the CEO of Bristol Meyers Squibb, and scheduled a trip to Washington to lobby for access to drugs. As our work continued, we decided to organize a not-for-profit organization to help build our efforts into a stronger organization that would include others like us!
That is where you come in! It has been a lot of work ..but the word is getting out! Together we have and can make a difference for others in our world!
Thanks for joining us!
